Blinding Bling

By Tammy Derouin

How many votes does it take to vote away our freedom?  We are getting dangerously close to the answer.  For the 2008 presidential election, the American people made a terrible mistake.  We ignored that little voice which was trying to tell us that something wasn’t right.  We didn’t question statements or look at the directions being put before us.  When questions went unanswered or answers didn’t make sense, we didn’t demand an explanation.

We put the future of our country into the hands of an individual who was virtually unknown and had a lack luster career.  His unchecked background would eventually prove that we had plenty of reasons for concern.  Would we have hired him to guide us had we checked into his background more thoroughly?

The nation spoke.  Our country decided to follow an inexperienced travel guide.  As time passed, his intelligence was called into question.  Was he really so naïve?  Did he truly not grasp the seriousness of many situations and the potential consequences?  He wouldn’t intentionally steer us in the wrong direction, side with our enemy or deliver our nation into their hands, would he?

We took a wrong turn, got terribly lost and suffered some long term damage.  The damage was repairable but it would take some time to recover.  The evidence was transparently clear.  Our guide put us all at great risk.  He showed no sign of ending his quest to destroy us and everything we cherished.  We needed to eject him before he drove us off a cliff.

The time had come, with red flags flying everywhere, a new guide needed to emerge. What happened?  The reckless, destructive leader managed to distract the majority of the passengers.  Even with evidence mounting right outside their windows, the lies and deceit were concealed in blinding bling.  Any chance of getting us back on track ended as we drove deeper into darkness.

Our country, as a whole, decided to follow fairy tales and make believe rather than truth and logic. So, here we are once again with the opportunity to turn ourselves around and what are we doing?  On one side we have an individual who has deceived us for decades.  Her highly questionable political ideology and ethics have been exposed and it’s not over yet.

Her immediate opponent is a socialist.  Really America!  This was the land of the free but our uninformed fellow travelers only see the signs for free stuff as we barrel toward the edge of the cliff.  Older Americans should know better.  The evils of socialism and communism were once taught in our schools.  The younger generations, unfortunately, aren’t being taught history.

Socialism leads to communism.  You cannot create a perfect society.  An individual by the name of Adolf Hitler tried to do it and it didn’t end well.  He attempted to eliminate the Jewish race.  Germany is still haunted by Hitler’s shadow.  The people and the government are so afraid of being seen as racist, that they are willing to allow their current enemy into their land and openly destroy them.  That’s not racism, that’s stupidity.

On the other side of the vehicle, we have an individual who is trying to be a wolf for the Right side of the political spectrum.   He played among the wolves on the Left and has now jumped to the Right, why?  When people switch political parties, they’ve usually experienced some kind of epiphany.  Some of their beliefs, as well as their behavior, would be expected to change.  I don’t see any change, I do however, see a lot of red flags.

The wolf on the Right has left a path of questionable behavior.  We’ve had eight years of anti-American actions and behavior unbecoming of an American president.  Do we want to continue our descent?  Those who support him are angry.  I understand.  But, a wolf will always be a wolf.  We have an executive wolf as proof.  Acting and voting out of anger only leads to more anger.  Bad decisions will be made and the consequences will be greater.

We have one more chance to turn ourselves around and get us back on our Constitutional path.
Let’s hope we don’t look back with regret.

“Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us in our time, that in our time we did everything that could be done.  We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith.”

Ronald Reagan
