The Index Finger
By Tammy Derouin
I walked in on a humorous conversation this past week. I was asked if I was easily offended. The guys wanted to share the laughter but
they were considerate of my feelings. I
was given fair warning. Clip art is a
wonderful tool, no words, point made. The image was funny and I walked away
laughing. I pondered the question; am I
easily offended?
What is offensive?
Words and gestures if used in a derogatory way can cause hostility. What is offensive to one individual may seem
harmless to others. In addition to all
the control we are giving the government, we are collectively allowing the
government to determine what words and gestures are inappropriate.
Isn’t it strange how a hand gesture, which was never
considered offensive or dangerous, is now responsible for several children
being expelled from school? The index
finger and thumb is now considered a level 2 look-a-like firearm. Wow!
Have you registered your hands with the government? I wonder if they will try to confiscate them.
Isn’t it strange how a finger gesture, which has always been
considered offensive, is shrugged off?
Does anybody get suspended for launching the middle finger? It looks like a rocket! It’s on the launch pad! It could go off any time! It’s so dangerous! It’s so, so…
Feel free to insert the appropriate word.
If the finger gun is a level 2 look-a-like firearm, wouldn’t
logic dictate that a finger rocket is more powerful and could do more harm? Nope.
Much like Obama decides which laws he wants to make, uphold and enforce,
the progressives pick and choose which gestures and words will further their
agenda. Have you heard that the word
“bossy” is now in the crosshairs? When
did we become so thin-skinned? Oh right,
back in 2008.
In the reality of today’s power grab, the finger gun is a
distraction. Have Americans become so
soft, so sensitive that we are terrified of our own appendages? We are allowing our children to be suspended
because they make the shape of a legal weapon.
Yes, a legal weapon! Wow! How is a finger, which is made of flesh and
blood, more dangerous than the truly offensive behavior of our elected
servants?
On the scale of dangerous activities, let’s consider what is
truly serious. We have accepted an
administration that promised transparency but has only delivered deceit and
dishonesty. We’ve accepted and applauded
the fact that our current administration enjoys working outside of the
Constitution. The executive tells us
he’s going to go around Congress, follows through and we applaud him! Our rights are being trampled. Individuals have become government targets
simply because they don’t agree with the administration. Our children are slowly being turned into
useful government idiots by way of Common Core.
The executive simply picks up a pen or phone and his will is done. Endless mandates and executive orders have
transformed America. We no longer have a
president, we have a dictator.
Americans are being led to slaughter. Free stuff and endless promises to change the
world more to their liking are the bait.
Americans either can’t see the truth through the gimmicks or they don’t
care. We are ignoring the real
problem. A finger gun isn’t a problem
when the president and his attorney general cannot clearly answer if they would
ever target American citizens with Drones on American soil. Why was that such a difficult question to
answer? Their inability to clearly
answer the question is what made the answer so clear. Did this bother anybody else?
Our president has turned the greatest and once strongest
nation in the world into a laughing stock.
We are no longer respected. World
leaders, our enemies, mock us. Obama’s
mission is to destroy the United States.
His mission is almost accomplished.
Every time we allow this administration to infringe on our rights or to
overstep its authority, we give them our blessing to violate us even more.
Perhaps the most offensive gesture of them all is the index
finger. It has been used countless times
by the president to shift blame away from him and his administration. More damage has been caused by the president’s
finger pointing than any amount of people making a finger gun. I wonder if the president knows that when he
points his finger, there are three fingers pointing back at him.
The president offends me.
He has transformed my home into a land I no longer recognize. He has tarnished the office of President of
the United States, the White House and all symbols of freedom. He has transformed the land of the free into
the land of oppression.
“A Bill of Rights is what the people are entitled to against
every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on
inference.”
Thomas Jefferson
