A Tale of Two Realities
By Tammy Derouin
It only took a moment for our Dictator in Chief to set the
stage for his Tale of Two Realities. Did
everyone get nice and comfy? Did you
have your government issued pillow, blanket, jammies and hot cocoa? Were there enough “Progressive ‘Teddy’ Bears”
to go around? Mine didn’t survive. Don’t worry he’s in the recycling bin. And if you believe that, you’ll believe his
fairy tales.
And so the story began… It was the best of times; it was the
happiest of times. The nation had never
enjoyed such widespread prosperity. The
sun mysteriously grew and became brighter under his rule, despite ill-fated and
misguided leadership. If the global
warming jokers were worth their weight in ice cubes, they would’ve been
concerned about the damage being inflicted on the land. Where are the pitchforks
and torches? I hope they remember to use
the non-flammable torches. You know the
ones. They have a screw top for a $10
compact fluorescent complete with mercury.
Don’t forget the extension cord!
Oh wait, the sun is growing to benefit them so it doesn’t fit their agenda,
move along.
In this prosperous land, one is free to dream but only until
those dreams lead to prosperity that is greater than your neighbors. This will force the dictator to step in and
seize assets in an attempt to make the neighbors’ dreams come true. He has a pen and a phone and he will use them,
all by himself. He will dictate what is
best for each individual. Would someone
pass me a pair of those government issued shades? No, I need something smaller. Oh, one size fits all? Everything is ones size fits all? That’s ALARMING! Just remember to keep your eyes closed and
enjoy the growing sunshine under the protective shade of the government. You’re gonna love the ending, more cocoa?
I remember wishing the teleprompters would shut down so he
would have to think for himself. I would
have enjoyed watching him as he tried to figure out which lie came next. How would he make it to the end without the
words of the collective? But then I
remembered that would go against his principles, their principles. No self-respecting progressive would be
caught independently thinking. His
partners in Grand Theft Freedom would come to his rescue.
The nation would wait on hope and change, anticipating his
every lie. Of course, the teleprompters
didn’t malfunction but our system of government sure did. His speech was full of propaganda of epic
proportions. If that didn’t wake you up,
you have the ending you’ve got coming. Unfortunately,
the ignorance of so many will take us all down.
The President of the United States stood in front of
Congress and the American people and lied, repeatedly. He is successfully manufacturing a new
reality. I so desperately wanted to see
one member of Congress muster up the courage along with their spine and walk
out of the chamber. I wanted just one
person to explain as to why they were leaving.
Sadly, many congressmen waited in line for hours to high five the Commander
of the Federal Titanic.
Our Congress no longer has the courage to stop our impending
doom. Instead, they gleefully jump up
and down doing parlor tricks. It’s
sickening to watch as they willingly offer to throw more coal onto the fire. They fan the flame that will lead to
disaster. I guess I should say spin the
blades on the windmill, yet another successful fairy tale. If we are relying on wind power, maybe we do
have a chance, jokers.
Our dictator smiles because he knows that his rhetoric is
being accepted. He smiles to our face while
he stabs us in the back. As we drool
with a bottle of government issued formula hanging from our mouth, he will
convince us that in order to take better care of us, one document must go. Will anybody have the courage to say NO?!
And in the end, The Tale of Two Realities ends in sacrifice
as would be expected. The blindfold has
been removed and you finally see reality and truth. But is the decision still yours? Are you willingly sacrificing for the greater
good or has the collective greater good decided to sacrifice you?
“I see a beautiful city and a brilliant people rising from
this abyss. I see the lives for which I lay down my life, peaceful, useful,
prosperous and happy. I see that I hold a sanctuary in their hearts, and in the
hearts of their descendants, generations hence. It is a far, far better thing
that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to
than I have ever known.”
Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities
