Wisconsin Versus Detroit
By Tammy Derouin
Many people feel history is boring.  I’ll never understand it but then again it’s always intrigued me.  How we use history determines the conditions of the roads we travel.  Will we use the experience from those who came before us and travel in comfort?  No!  It’s much easier to ditch class and jump on a flatbed truck.  Toss the keys to someone who promises an all-expense paid journey.  Don’t worry about his experience; he’s going to get you to your destination for free!  Now buckle up, no, you’re in a flatbed, hold on for dear life.
Road signs will encourage you to lean forward.  I know, it’s stupid but you’re not supposed to question the person you’ve put in charge of your travels.  Reality kicks in as you realize you are actually leaning further left; the conditions worsen.  Nervously, you dare to question his methods. You are given some crazy mumbo jumbo story that explains how leaning to the left will in fact move everything forward.  You accept it.  We’ll blame it on the exhaust fumes, for now.
So now you’re leaning further to the left, yet you are supposedly moving forward as you watch everything you know and love disappear behind you.  Just ignore that gut-wrenching feeling.    It’s dark and the headlights have mysteriously been removed.  Others have attempted this path and there’s always a tragic ending.  Nevertheless, it’s free!  It also came with the promise that you would be completely transformed by the end of your journey.  Good thing you didn’t ask what that meant before you jumped on board.  Nothing but blue skies ahead, just don’t look down.  That cliff you’re about to go over is the shortcut to the end of your journey.  Full speed ahead!
Right about now I’m thinking history class would have been a safer alternative.  Some people don’t like history.  I still don’t understand, but okay.  It doesn’t grab their attention, puts them to sleep.  Is that flatbed keeping you awake?    Perhaps some kind of living history would help.  If only there were current exhibits to visit.  Too bad the media doesn’t broadcast such examples.  If it doesn’t involve Justin or Miley, it’s not worth mentioning.
Wisconsin versus Detroit.  Road trip!   Remember Governor Scott Walker?  He’s the Republican governor of Wisconsin, a very blue, very democratic state.  There were two failed attempts to remove him from office.  The unions, as well as many liberals, tried to destroy his life.  He didn’t back down from his beliefs.  Governor Walker not only survived but continued to fight for conservative policies.  The union thugs didn’t beat him. In fact, he weakened the death grip they had on the state.
The result; less government in the State of Wisconsin. Unemployment has gone down and there is a $912 million surplus.  Governor Walker plans to return the surplus to the people of Wisconsin by way of tax rebates.  Property and income taxes are being cut.
Where’s the media?  Governor Walker’s belief in less government resulted in attempts to remove him from office.  Those beliefs have turned the state around with a surplus.  So where are the headlines?  This story isn’t being reported in mainstream media.  It doesn’t fit the progressive agenda so the liberal media doesn’t cover it.  I think such a story would be scaring the propaganda out of them, and it should.
Conservative policies bring about prosperity.  Progressive policies lead to Detroit.  Liberal policies sucked the life out of one of our nation’s most prosperous cities.  Their answers always leave a path of destruction.  Taxes go up in an attempt to redistribute wealth.  Successful individuals leave because they have been financially drained.  Unemployment skyrockets and a feeling of entitlement courses through society.  Their answer will always be that they need more money.  When Detroit was a wealthy city, Detroit didn’t need progressives.
Progressives will continue to do what progressives do best - deny, blame and attack.  For the past six years conservative Americans have been under attack.  There have been countless attempts to mock and belittle those who are different.  Odd, they used to defend those who were different.  When name calling didn’t help their cause, they turned to sticks and stones.  The Obama administration has misused the power of the government to targeted conservatives.   Every department from the IRS to his attorney general has been enlisted to conduct witch-hunts against those who would challenge his intentions.  If his attempts to control Americans aren’t successful with his current strategy, he will use his pen and phone, nothing new.
Conservative Americans don’t think inside the collective box.  Conservative Americans believe in small government and freedom.  We want to be independent and free.  This was pretty mainstream thinking not so long ago.
“The budget surplus is really your money, you earned it.”
Governor Scott Walker

The most incredible show of all time is taking place right now in the United States Congress.  To watch in real time, such a hoax, as the one taking place by those we voted into office is shameful.  We have not paid attention and the result is the Puppet Master in Chief and his Congressional Minions.

Congress applauds and America slips away.

Our president is getting away with outrageous lies.  Our press will not question him.  Nobody will hold him accountable.

Obama smiles while addressing the nation because he knows that his lies are being accepted.  If we don't call him on his anti-American actions and for not upholding the Constitution, we no longer will be the land of the free.  It's slipping away, one executive order and one phone call at a time.

When will we say enough is enough?  I'm afraid it will be too late by the time enough Americans rub the sleep out of their eyes.

Glenn Beck is right, it is a Circus in that chamber.

History Repeats
By Tammy Derouin
When we were born, we were born free, but it didn’t last very long.  And you thought that first cry was from the shock of the birth process.  As more Americans wake up, the reality hits like your first gasp of air.
Man has a thirst for power and domination.  He will intentionally inflict great pain and suffering on his fellow man.  The population is but a tool for someone who desires ultimate power, a human army, and a means to an end.  The people are disposable because they’re mere stepping stones.  Man is cunning and ruthless in his quest for power and ultimate control.  When push eventually leads to shove, man is the most evil of all species. History provides many examples.
Man disguises his malicious intent by pretending to care about the weakest among us.  Those who distrust the fox in the hen house are immediately called into question.  Did someone doubt the nice, gentle fox?  He is only making sure the hens have everything they need.  After all, the hens elected him to guard and provide for them.  The weasels would occasionally discover a hen between the teeth of the fox.  To make such headlines go away, the fox befriends the weasels.  The fox knew if he played nice with the weakest among them, he would gain more influence and power overall.  Eventually, one fox became more powerful than all the weasels combined.  He now controls their lives.  He allows them to exist, conditionally, of course.  In exchange for not reporting the occasional disappearance of a hen, or anything else the fox determines must go, the weasels will continue to live.  The weasels now work for the fox.  They are his minions.  Their job is to distract, by supplying the smoke and mirrors, whenever and wherever the fox demands it.  We know them as the American Press.
There is greed in all of us, not just those who believe in capitalism.  How we use that trait determines our path.  The desire to better one’s self can be strong enough to lift someone out of poverty.  It can be the driving force behind a new company.  This company may eventually employ many people; people who believe in an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay.  Maybe it will lead to the formation of yet another business.  One success leads to another.  By nature, man wants to better himself.
Progressives have become very successful.  Their success, however, is deeply embedded in both greed and capitalism. This fact forces them to distance themselves from reality, or the truth.  They’ve made words such as greed, capitalism and free-market, evil, in an attempt to convince you that you can’t succeed without the help of the government.   History is changed; facts and evidence are hidden or destroyed.  They’ve convinced themselves that they know best.  All that’s left is to convince you.
Progressives desire a perfect world as determined by them.  The American way of life has been in their cross hairs for decades.  They play upon our fears and target the weakest among us.  They lie, claiming everyone is entitled to everything.  Unattainable promises are made to feed their greed, helpful for getting re-elected. The ability to deceive and disguise the truth makes them more powerful.  Successful Americans have been turned into the evil greedy enemy of the poor.  Progressives have harnessed their political desires with like-minded influential corporations.  They wish to control every aspect of your life.
Nobody is entitled to anything other than life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness - nature’s law.  Nature’s law gives rights.  Man’s law takes them away.  Progressives don’t want you to know how powerful and empowering freedom really is.  You wouldn’t need them if you did.
If the progressives are successful, our brief existence as a free nation will be a chapter in the history books.  They will claim America failed because Americans became too greedy.  The free-market system and capitalism will be blamed.  They will deceive everyone including themselves.
If America falls, greed will be to blame but it won’t be because we had too much freedom.  Greed will be blamed because history repeats.  Man desires to control his fellow man.  We don’t know our history so we smile, applaud and elect those who convince us that they know best.  Detroit is a perfect example of what happens to prosperity when left to the progressives.
It isn’t the government’s job to provide for you; that is your job.  We came into this world free.  I fear, with each passing day, we will exit this life pursuing that which we once had, freedom.
“The truth is, all might be free if they valued freedom, and defended it as they ought.”
Samuel Adams

Where Will You Be?
By Tammy Derouin
Our president continues to appoint those with questionable principles and job performance records.  An appointment used to be a reward for a job well done.  Instead, he rewards those who are willing and able to make harmful decisions against our country.  This has become a prerequisite for promotions in the Obama administration.  In any other industry such a questionable person would have been kicked off the team, not made captain.
Obama promotes those who share his vision, which means dismantling the structure and foundation of the United States.  Can you imagine the unrest at your work place if someone continuously failed at their job by implementing programs with disastrous results?  Okay, there’s a learning curve so we give this employee a second chance.  It baffles me that he got a second chance but ok, let’s go with it. He didn’t learn from his mistakes.  He continues to make harmful decisions.  Eventually, it is discovered that they weren’t mistakes at all but a covert operation for a complete takeover.  It’s also discovered that he has made the company vulnerable to attack by removing defense mechanisms and hiring those who wish to divide and conquer.
The facts are on the table.  The board members, along with the stockholders and employees, have the evidence before them.  There’s evidence of scandals, corruption, lies and deception.  The most arrogant of them all, changing company rules without going through proper procedures. Your company manual was changed and you didn’t even know it.  He told you he was going to do it but you didn’t think he actually meant what he said.  Your benefits are gone!
You’re not without blame.  You applauded, cheered and smiled as he told you what he was going to do.  You even bought into the lies when common sense should’ve told you otherwise.  History is going to be vicious when coming generations read that the greatest country in the world fell because of lies and deceit.  Of course, that’s provided the government allows anybody to be educated in anything other than Mao and communism.  You can’t tell me that you would blindly sign on the dotted line without knowing what you were signing.
We allowed ourselves to be conned.  Our elected officials and so many Americans supported a bill pitched with maximum arrogance.  The only way we were going to see what was in it, was to pass it?  Has stupidity entered the drinking water and the air that we breathe?  There are some things in life that should never, ever be gambled away.  We no longer value freedom so we put it on the table and risk it all for what’s behind door number one, two or three.  When you’re willing to risk such a precious gift, those in power will stack the odds against you.  There will be a goat behind every door.
We perpetuate our dire situation by buying into more of their manufactured lies.  They’ve convinced us that a goat is a valuable prize in exchange for our freedom.  We accept their reasons without question.  We smile and cheer that we have a goat.  They smile a sinister smile that they’ve convinced us that a goat is better than life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; our freedoms.
You know that feeling you get when someone is trying to convince you of something that just doesn’t add up?  Something about their story isn’t right but you lack information to argue against them.  That’s us America!  There was a time when we would’ve excused ourselves from the conversation and checked into the facts.  Unfortunately, our first line of fact checkers, the press, went over to the dark side years ago.  If we would have been paying attention, we would’ve realized the press was no longer a good source of information.  Had we checked out the information ourselves, we would’ve been armed for the next round.   Instead, we’re standing in the middle of the ring, blindfolded with our hands tied behind our back.  We decided to take the word of the Master of Illusion.  Because of this error, the ability to arm ourselves with information and weapons is disappearing at rapid speed.
The president’s motive to dismantle the United States has become blatantly obvious.  In the real world an attempt to do such harm would be considered a conspiracy and treason.  All the factors and players are there, yet we continue to look away.  One day, the United States, land of the free, will be gone forever.  Where will you be when it all comes crashing down?
“Experience hath shown, that even under the best forms (of government) those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.”
Thomas Jefferson

Blink Blink
By Tammy Derouin

It’s a Looney Tune world!  I end the year with the Coyote and begin the year in an Elmer Fudd like scene.  Duck Season!  Wabbit Season!  Duck Season!  Wabbit Season!  Will it or won’t it happen?  I eventually heard the shot.  My beak, filled with holes, landed on top of my head.  I’m left holding a handful of buckshot, blink, blink.
And so the year begins.  As the coaster pulls away, I begin the year without a job.  I will be separated, for a little while, from the job that pays the bills.  I’ve been through this before but now I’m the only source of income.  It’s supposed to be short term.  I’ve been given no reason to think otherwise but still, not a welcome beginning to the year.
Those who know me, know how much I value a sense of humor.  I grew up watching Looney Tunes.  I’ve referenced those classic Bugs Bunny cartoons many times throughout my life.  Childhood laughter continued as an adult.  Most cartoons are age oriented.  Good humor doesn’t change with age.  If anything, the older you get, the more you appreciate Looney Tunes.
I guess this is where my appreciation for sarcastic humor began.  Who else but Bugs Bunny could calmly look down the barrel of a gun, chew on a carrot and get the better of his opponent?  Oh yes, while delivering a one liner such as, “Shhhhhhhh!  I’m about to defy you.”   There really are lessons behind the gun powder.
Bugs Bunny’s life is full of interesting characters.  Most stay true to their characteristic form, when they deviate, there’s a motive.  As much as I love to watch Daffy Duck and Yosemite Sam lose their temper, you never turn your back on them.  Sylvester will always chase Tweety.  Marvin the Martian wants to destroy the earth.  Tasmanian Devil will destroy everything in his path to obtain his desired goal.  Is this life imitating art or art imitating life?
I remember some controversy in my early adult years involving Looney Tunes.  Would Little Johnny run off a cliff thinking he would recover from the fall?  Would he climb into an oven, swallow dynamite, or paint a dog’s tongue – before or after beating his backside?   Most of these cartoons were made years before, no casualties to report.
There was a time when common sense was either something you were born with or something life taught.  I once worked with a girl who felt Looney Tunes were too violent.  Stupid is what stupid does.  Some guys had convinced her that her tail lights weren’t working.  During lunch she went out to check.  She pressed the brake down and quickly ran to the back repeatedly, to see if they were working.  I’m not kidding!
The guys provided a real life Looney Tune moment, and they knew it.  I sat back and enjoyed the show.  It was difficult to watch but some life lessons are painful.  Unfortunately, she left thinking her tail lights weren’t working.  Oh, to be the mechanic at the garage!
Somewhere along the line, those who have a common sense deficiency have made it their goal to wrap everyone in bubble wrap.  How did man make it so far without government intervention?  How is it that man is the dominate species?  We have a brain that learns from our experiences.  We are even so advanced that some logic doesn’t need to be learned.  We will actually stop at the edge of the cliff.  We aren’t sheep mindlessly following the herd or are we?
Most of us grew up in the real world where there were consequences for our actions.  Taking the gun off the mantle was only done to hunt, protect your family, home and property.  It was understood what pulling the trigger meant.
The younger generations have been gravely overprotected.  Because of this error, they haven’t been able to learn or feel the consequences of their actions.  The government and society have overstepped their boundaries.  Protection is so extreme that one feels negligent if Little Johnny isn’t wrapped in bubble wrap to go outside and play.
I survived riding in vehicles without seat belts and learned to ride a bike without a helmet and every pad now available.  I skinned my knees, got bumps and bruises and I lived to tell about it.
Cartoon violence in my day was understood to be entertainment.  It was funny because it wasn’t realistic. Kids didn’t act out what they watched.  Today’s cartoons, video games and entertainment, in general, are very violent and are being recreated with morbid results.
What has changed in our society?  We’ve allowed ourselves to be taken out of the driver’s seat.  The government now thinks for us which means we’ve strapped ourselves to the herd.  Will we survive the impact?  Blink, blink.
“And remember, ‘mud’ spelled backwards is ‘dum’.
Bugs Bunny

Roadrunner

It’s time to welcome a new and hopefully better year.  For a year that began with so much hope and optimism, wow!  I’ve referred to this past year many times as a roller coaster.  Recent years could be compared to bungee jumping or jumping out of a plane and wondering if the parachute would open.  Life has improved.
When you know ahead of time that the path is going to be rough, preparation will hopefully keep you from slamming into the dirt.  Life is full of ups and downs; that’s to be expected.  What’s deceiving is when you feel you’ve weathered the storm with blue skies on the horizon, but keep getting tossed about by wave after wave from pop-up storms.
There were times when I wanted to get off the coaster and walk away.  There were also times when I thought I had left it behind only to discover that something snagged me back.  This interruption in concentration led to the feeling that I was no longer in the cart but being dragged around from behind.  This added bonus allowed me to feel each and every individual slat as I was yanked around the track.
At every turn there seemed to be an overabundance of challenges this past year.  I could always count on the government to provide disparaging news.  Actions by those in power have altered the fundamental foundation of our way of life.  Events that would’ve been considered fictional and unrealistic several years ago have become our reality.  Those in power have taken us off course and the people are too busy to look out the window and realize we are heading in the wrong direction.
Events closer to home have been both interesting and challenging.  Circumstances gave me the opportunity to observe how events on the world stage are very similar to events in our own little worlds.  The pattern is the same when power is abused and control is the goal.  I’ve witnessed it in my personal life.  The government and those in power have provided wonderful examples of what can happen when power and authority go unchecked.  There’s no such thing as a perfect system but a progressive is a progressive and their solution is always the same.  It’s tragic to watch as a path of destruction is set in motion time and time again.  How many times will we have to relive history?
The holiday season is not my favorite time of year.  For too many years it’s been the longest stretch of pretending life was just fine.  A few years have passed since I removed myself from a daily life of despair.  Although life in general has been better, including the holidays, it’s also become six weeks of open season on me.  My nemesis doesn’t quit, not even for the holidays.
I’ve noticed a similarity in this situation as well, Roadrunner and Coyote.  The Roadrunner is minding his own business, just going about life.  The Coyote continuously tries to intercept and well, destroy the Roadrunner.  It’s not the Roadrunner who’s keeping ACME Supply Co. in business.  Coyote can’t get Roadrunner no matter how hard he tries.  This infuriates Coyote which causes him to escalate every assault.  At some point the pressure cooker ends up on him and he quits, for a little while. He gathers his parts, heads back to the cave and maps out his next attack.
Every time I dodge a boulder, an anvil or a rocket with a homing device, I’m reminded of why I left.  Staying in a difficult situation because it’s familiar, and oddly enough felt safe, isn’t beneficial and only delays the inevitable.  Feeling safe in a bad situation means you’ve adapted to your surroundings.  Happiness doesn’t exist.
Every once in a while the unexpected has perfect timing.  Some surprises generate a smile.  If you’re really fortunate it comes when you need it most.  The clouds part if only for a moment and a ray of sunshine appears.  Everything happens for a reason.
I’m grateful for all the good and the challenges that life has to offer.  Every step leads to the next.  Every experience teaches and brings something of value whether it was the expected outcome or not.
I find myself standing in line for another ride.  Maybe this roller coaster will be a little different.  There will be ups and downs and maybe, hopefully, a little tranquility along the way.  I’ve strapped myself in and wonder what challenges and enjoyments the next year will bring.
Failure is not an option.  I may lose some feathers along the way but I refuse to give up.  Life is a journey not a destination.  Climb aboard and take a chance.
