Wisconsin Versus Detroit
By Tammy Derouin
Many people feel history is boring.  I’ll never understand it but then again it’s always intrigued me.  How we use history determines the conditions of the roads we travel.  Will we use the experience from those who came before us and travel in comfort?  No!  It’s much easier to ditch class and jump on a flatbed truck.  Toss the keys to someone who promises an all-expense paid journey.  Don’t worry about his experience; he’s going to get you to your destination for free!  Now buckle up, no, you’re in a flatbed, hold on for dear life.
Road signs will encourage you to lean forward.  I know, it’s stupid but you’re not supposed to question the person you’ve put in charge of your travels.  Reality kicks in as you realize you are actually leaning further left; the conditions worsen.  Nervously, you dare to question his methods. You are given some crazy mumbo jumbo story that explains how leaning to the left will in fact move everything forward.  You accept it.  We’ll blame it on the exhaust fumes, for now.
So now you’re leaning further to the left, yet you are supposedly moving forward as you watch everything you know and love disappear behind you.  Just ignore that gut-wrenching feeling.    It’s dark and the headlights have mysteriously been removed.  Others have attempted this path and there’s always a tragic ending.  Nevertheless, it’s free!  It also came with the promise that you would be completely transformed by the end of your journey.  Good thing you didn’t ask what that meant before you jumped on board.  Nothing but blue skies ahead, just don’t look down.  That cliff you’re about to go over is the shortcut to the end of your journey.  Full speed ahead!
Right about now I’m thinking history class would have been a safer alternative.  Some people don’t like history.  I still don’t understand, but okay.  It doesn’t grab their attention, puts them to sleep.  Is that flatbed keeping you awake?    Perhaps some kind of living history would help.  If only there were current exhibits to visit.  Too bad the media doesn’t broadcast such examples.  If it doesn’t involve Justin or Miley, it’s not worth mentioning.
Wisconsin versus Detroit.  Road trip!   Remember Governor Scott Walker?  He’s the Republican governor of Wisconsin, a very blue, very democratic state.  There were two failed attempts to remove him from office.  The unions, as well as many liberals, tried to destroy his life.  He didn’t back down from his beliefs.  Governor Walker not only survived but continued to fight for conservative policies.  The union thugs didn’t beat him. In fact, he weakened the death grip they had on the state.
The result; less government in the State of Wisconsin. Unemployment has gone down and there is a $912 million surplus.  Governor Walker plans to return the surplus to the people of Wisconsin by way of tax rebates.  Property and income taxes are being cut.
Where’s the media?  Governor Walker’s belief in less government resulted in attempts to remove him from office.  Those beliefs have turned the state around with a surplus.  So where are the headlines?  This story isn’t being reported in mainstream media.  It doesn’t fit the progressive agenda so the liberal media doesn’t cover it.  I think such a story would be scaring the propaganda out of them, and it should.
Conservative policies bring about prosperity.  Progressive policies lead to Detroit.  Liberal policies sucked the life out of one of our nation’s most prosperous cities.  Their answers always leave a path of destruction.  Taxes go up in an attempt to redistribute wealth.  Successful individuals leave because they have been financially drained.  Unemployment skyrockets and a feeling of entitlement courses through society.  Their answer will always be that they need more money.  When Detroit was a wealthy city, Detroit didn’t need progressives.
Progressives will continue to do what progressives do best - deny, blame and attack.  For the past six years conservative Americans have been under attack.  There have been countless attempts to mock and belittle those who are different.  Odd, they used to defend those who were different.  When name calling didn’t help their cause, they turned to sticks and stones.  The Obama administration has misused the power of the government to targeted conservatives.   Every department from the IRS to his attorney general has been enlisted to conduct witch-hunts against those who would challenge his intentions.  If his attempts to control Americans aren’t successful with his current strategy, he will use his pen and phone, nothing new.
Conservative Americans don’t think inside the collective box.  Conservative Americans believe in small government and freedom.  We want to be independent and free.  This was pretty mainstream thinking not so long ago.
“The budget surplus is really your money, you earned it.”
Governor Scott Walker
