An Awakening

By Tammy Derouin

Throughout the years of the Obama administration it was difficult to know if we, as a nation, would be able survive the assault which was leveled against the American people and our freedoms. Being an individual who tries to see the glass as half full, I couldn't give up hope. We would find a way to correct the wrongs and repair the damage. As his second term got underway, I began to feel that an awakening had begun to spread across the country. Thankfully, it had, and the result was that Hillary Clinton was not elected president. Eight years of deception and scandalous behavior weakened our standing in the world, as well as our defenses. People were waking up.

With any type of awakening, there's a reckoning. Once we allow ourselves to come to terms with reality, we are able to make an assessment of the damage. Not all damage is known or felt right away. You can attempt to correct and change a bad situation, which is good and should be done, but that doesn't mean you automatically avoid all of the side effects. Long term consequences usually come into play and that, unfortunately, is what we are dealing with right now. When bad policies are enacted, policies which do not put the safety and security of the American people first, there will be consequences. The casualty count varies with each incident, but overall, it will only increase until a much larger awakening takes place.

If the goal of the Obama administration was to leave a legacy of corruption and deceit, to jeopardize the safety and security of the American people and to politicize every arm of every department in the government for the purpose of fulfilling a political agenda, they did an excellent job. They not only managed to turn everything upside down, they successfully sold their destructive activity to many Americans as a false-positive. The press spun the desired stories and the uninformed cheered, which brought about an endless cycle of lies and cheers.

I remember the disappointment when it was realized, by some, that Obama couldn't legally serve a third term. The president is limited to two, four-year terms. That's a pretty basic American Civics lesson. Was it not taught while they were in school or did they not retain the information? The desire to find a way around the law was even more concerning. History is important and so is the study of how our government is supposed to work, as well as why so many other forms of government do not work and eventually fail. Knowing such information is vital to our survival as a free and independent nation.

A charlatan knows what he is doing. His success is measured by the amount he is able to deceive. Obama managed to redefine the meaning of the word transparent. By simply saying one thing and doing another, the word transparent took on a whole new meaning; the complete opposite. Many would continue to proclaim that the administration was transparent, with the true, dictionary approved definition. His administration was riddled with scandals, however, if you check out social media, you will find proclamations that he served eight years without one single scandal. That's the work of a successful master of illusion.

The President is supposed to put the safety and security, as well as the interest of the American people, first and foremost before the interests of our allies and most certainly before the interest of our enemies or non-citizens. Policies which protect those who are here illegally or allow dangerous individuals into the United States without proper vetting through some crazy lottery system or a wide-open unprotected border, have the potential to destroy us from the inside. Our federal laws are being openly defied by many cities and states, which care more about a political agenda than the safety of the citizens. Harboring those who are here illegally creates a very dangerous situation for all Americans as well as the safety and security of our country. It's also illegal!

We have a president who is trying to protect the American people and our borders. He has been met with non-stop obstacles and bitter hatred. Why have so many Americans turned against the need to protect our home? If we continue to go down this destructive path which harbors criminals, gives more benefits and rights to non-citizens and prohibits law enforcement from doing their job; protecting us and the U.S., we will destroy ourselves.

“And you know, it's not just illegal immigration. Terrorists can come across. They're devastating our ranchers down in southern Arizona – drop houses, kidnapping, automobile accidents, extortion, drugs, the spill-over with the drug cartels. We're facing all of it.”

Jan Brewer
