America
By Tammy Derouin
I went to a movie this past week. After purchasing my ticket I was told to
enjoy my evening of entertainment. I
paused briefly. The young man probably
said it out of habit. The film “America”
is reality. You have to step out of the
illusion, which has been built to distract and entertain us, when you walk
through the doors for this film.
We are living in a transformed nation. I grew up with pride in being an
American. My generation still recited
the Pledge of Allegiance. We learned
patriotic songs and sang them in music class, assemblies, and for evening
programs. We were taught why the
Revolutionary War was necessary. The
Declaration of Independence not only declared our independence, it states why
our forefathers risked their lives to sign it and then fought for it. One bullet could have altered history. We are turning back the hands of time and
willingly going back into darkness.
Films which had names such as Lucas or Spielberg in the
credits were usually a guaranteed hit.
The storytellers know that good and evil collide. Evil tries to destroy Good and gain control. Battles are fought in relationships, in
courtrooms or on the battlefield. A
David and Goliath atmosphere is created.
Whether the underdog may have been strong at some point but suffered a
powerful blow or his time had finally come, Americans love to cheer for the
underdog. Evil may win many battles but
Good usually wins the war.
We, the people of this great nation, know it when we see
it. Remember when the Death Star blew
up? The people in the theater applauded
and cheered. Remember when Darth Vader
finally realized what had happened to him and the world around him? He picked up the Emperor, his mentor, and
threw him into the abyss. Good refused
to go to the dark side and take the easy way out. Good lost many battles but it won the war.
Remember when films made you proud to be an American? Films like Top Gun, Clear and Present Danger
and Air Force One summoned the pride and showcased the strength of America. We can easily see when someone has been
wronged and can identify oppression and tyranny.
Hollywood and the powers that be know how to tell
stories. So why do so many, who have
made millions telling these stories, support the shadow figures and their
hidden agendas? Surly they read their
own screenplays. The outcome isn’t a
surprise because it was buried under thousands of pages. They need to know everything about a story
before they sink their money into it. It
makes sense, doesn’t it?
We see it in our individual lives. We know when something isn’t right. What do we do? We fight for our rights as an
individual. We plan an escape route when
it becomes obvious that injustices will not be resolved. When the time is right, we declare our
intention or independence and prepare for war.
Many battles will be lost but in the end, Good usually wins the
war.
We are perfectly capable of identifying tyranny on the
silver screen and in our personal lives.
We understand because we have unalienable rights; life, liberty and the
pursuit of happiness. We understand
nature’s law. We have a God given right
to speech, religion and to defend ourselves and our family and property. So why do so many Americans have a problem
identifying tyranny and abuse of power when it’s happening to America?
Pride in country is no longer being instilled in our
children by the public schools. American history, if it’s being taught, is
changing. Didn’t someone say we would
have to change our history? We’ve
already lost one generation, how many more are we going to allow to become foot
soldiers for the progressive movement?
When the progressives come out swinging by attacking a
person, a news source, a network, an idea or a film, they are hiding something. Those on the Left fought against prejudice,
yet it’s one of their main weapons; the hypocrisy. The progressives don’t want you to know the
truth. Anyone who disagrees or calls
foul becomes a target; an enemy of the state.
They mock, belittle and dismiss any information they don’t like.
A good dose of reality is playing on the silver screen,
“America.” This movie has been attacked
by the left. Those who are friends or
supporters of D’Souza, the filmmaker, are mocked, belittled and dismissed. It sounds like they’re hiding something. Evil is winning many battles, will it win the
war? If you’ve already dismissed
“America,” I challenge you to see it. What
are you afraid of, the truth?
“Other countries have been founded by ‘accidents of
force.’ America is a creation of
thought.”
Dinesh D’Souza
