The Road Block
By Tammy Derouin

Last Wednesday I was listening to a morning radio show.  The host announced it was Constitution Day and proceeded to play a few patriotic songs.  He then asked his fellow co-hosts what they liked most about America.  The very first word was Freedom.  One co-host said she was glad we didn’t have to worry about oppression, especially towards women.  His other co-host mentioned a conversation with someone who had traveled extensively around the world.  This traveler observed that Americas aren’t born into a class system and bound by their lineage.  Each individual determines his own future.

Their answers were great. They were the standard answers we expect to hear.  Several years ago I would have accepted them without a doubt.  That however, is no longer the case.  The news media no longer reports the truth or anything the administration doesn’t want released.  The entertainment industry has been recruited to create the false reality of the state of our nation.  The high level of their success is due in part to the indoctrination of our children.  The educational system has been providing fertile ground for the fairy tales to take root.

I came across a story where people were asked to identify the three branches of government.  Once again the outcome was disappointing.  Not that long ago, the answer would roll off the tongues of American students.  Is it any wonder this administration gets away with hijacking the United States of America?  Somewhere along the line we began to accept a change, a transformation if you will, away from our principles and our heritage.  What does it say about our educational system or who we’ve become, when we no longer teach the basic history of our country?  Of course, if teaching cursive is altered or eliminated, the documents which secure our freedoms become unreadable.  The elite will need to interpret them; something they will be more than happy to do for us.

We all grew up learning something about our family history.  We listened to stories and asked questions.  Documents and photographs provide an enlightening glimpse into the past.  Family heirlooms are precious, especially when they become a final link to the past.  Our history answers questions, but we must pay attention.

We seem to understand the value of personal history but American history, without which our personal history would be greatly altered, is being devalued.  Our elected government officials are leading the charge, or is it change?  If we as Americans do not know how and why the United States exists, how will we know when we’ve made a wrong turn?

Every form of tyranny involves the removal of education and information.  Now let’s think about this on a more personal scale.   When someone wishes to control you or nudge you in a certain direction, what do they do?  They attack your foundation, your beliefs.  They plant seeds of doubt regarding your family, friends and those with whom you associate.  Your travel is monitored or becomes restricted.  Cell phones and email accounts are compromised. Changes in household finances are put into place to make you financially dependent.  Every possible road block is thrown your way.  This is to prevent you from reaching out to others.  You might discover information, the truth which the controller has been hiding.  Information is slowly spun to benefit their agenda.  If you do manage to get some information, it is mocked and belittled and so are those from whom you received it.  The power hungry know that limiting education and information enslaves people.

It’s natural and acceptable to want to escape such tyranny at the personal level. Why do we accept it at the national level?  Our freedoms and our sovereignty are disappearing.  Do you feel freedom has increased or decreased since the 2008 election?  How are your unalienable rights holding up?   Do you feel you can express your thoughts or beliefs without fear of retribution from the government?  Has this administration strengthened our military, supported our allies and protected our borders?  Do you feel the president has the best interests of the American people in mind or do you feel like we the people, are the road block?

Freedom is the first word that comes to mind when we think about America. We are no longer as free as we would like to believe.  The oppression that used to take place in other countries is taking place here.  Enemies which were once an ocean away are now hiding within our borders.  Believing, without any doubt or hesitation, that our president is an ally of the American people is no longer true.

Constitution Day should have been a day of celebration.  It wasn’t mentioned on any of my calendars.

“The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending against all hazards: And it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.”

Samuel Adams
